What We Do
Stem Cell Treatments in
Kansas City
Motus Biologics Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine in Kansas City is a sole proprietorship established by Dr. Leslie Michaud. Motus uses cutting-edge scientific advancements to offer minimally invasive stem cell treatments in Kansas City. Surgical intervention is not desirable or ideal for many patients. However, our nonsurgical stem cell treatment options provide a more natural and less risky approach to relief of symptoms. Applicable to many orthopedic conditions and patients, this innovative practice positions Motus as industry-leading in orthopedics.
How We’re Different
Traditional treatments, primarily surgery, carry significant barriers like recovery time and cost. Biologics offer an alternative solution.
motus
Uses the patient’s own stem cells and platelet-rich plasma to stimulate regrowth of tissues as opposed to traditional surgical methods that replace or remove the tissue.
Is significantly cheaper, far less risky, and requires meaningfully less recovery time.
Uses established, evidence-based techniques at half the price of the local biologics competitor.
Provides stem cell treatments in Kansas City to promote decreased physical, emotional, and financial cost from time off work and/or surgical recovery.
traditional
Knee replacement in the US costs $56-58K.
Joint replacement postoperative complications (heart attack, stroke, DVT, pulmonary embolism, infection, and bleeding) are at 1-5%.
Return to most normal activity from surgical interventions such as joint replacement is, on average, 3 months.
A recent study published in Orthopedics reported that up to 40% of patients complain of postoperative pain 1 year following TKA.
Define
What is biologics?
Biologics is an emerging field of medicine that is currently being used to treat a myriad of conditions from neurologic to cardiac (myocardial tissue regrowth after a heart attack) to orthopedic conditions.
Motus Biologics Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine provides stem cell treatments in Kansas City using the individual’s own cells and changes their concentrations and locations to promote regeneration of various tissues. In the arena of orthopedics, there are three main sources of biologics – platelet-rich plasma (PRP), adipose (fat) grafting, and bone marrow concentrate (BMC).
PRP
PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is obtained from your own blood. It works by recruiting the body’s own healing components to the area of disease. At Motus, we collect your blood and concentrate these growth factors.
Stem Cells
Stem cells are structures that can turn, or differentiate, into any type of cell in the body. At Motus, we harvest stem cells from the patient and concentrate them using a centrifuge (similar to PRP). We then use an ultrasound to guide the stem cells to the area in need of treatment.
Tenex
Tenex is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgical treatments for tendon and fascia conditions. The treatment was developed by the Mayo Clinic and is covered by most insurances.

who we are
Dr. Leslie
Michaud
Dr. Michaud attended medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed her internship and residency in family medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She returned for fellowship training in primary care sports medicine at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas from which she graduated in 2013.
Dr. Michaud practiced for 3 years at DFP Orthopedics and served as the team physician for the 2015 Class 6 state championship high school football team, the Blue Springs South Jaguars.
who we are
Dr. Joel Ackerman
Dr. Joel Ackerman is an area pain physician and performs thousands of spinal injections annually. Dr. Ackerman attended the University of Kansas for both undergraduate and medical school. Graduating in 2003 from the University of Kansas Medical School, Dr. Ackerman then spent five years at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
While at the Mayo Clinic, he spent one year in a general medicine internship, three years completing an anesthesiology residency, and then completed a fellowship in interventional pain management.
In 2008, Dr. Ackerman decided to return to Kansas City and now helps provide stem cell treatments in Kansas City.
