Have you struggled with swelling in one or multiple joints?

Swelling of a joint is never normal. For some patients, swelling is completely painless but for others, this can cause considerable discomfort, stiffness, and loss of motion. The joint(s) may even be red and warm to the touch.

What causes swelling in the joints?

Swelling in joints can be from a number of causes including injury, arthritis, gout, infection, or disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis or Lyme’s). At Motus, we are here to help evaluate your swollen joints in Kansas City.

What can I expect at my visit for my swollen joints in Kansas City?

Your first appointment will consist of a normal doctor’s visit. We will ask you about your symptoms, previous treatments, and family history. We will perform a physical examination and review any x-rays or other tests that you may have had.

Motus will perform an ultrasound examination to evaluate the fluid on the joint as well as the tendons, ligaments, and muscles. It may be necessary to use the ultrasound to assist in draining the joint. The fluid is often sent to the laboratory for analysis and additional blood tests may need to be performed to get to the bottom of why your joint is swelling.

Once the proper diagnosis is established, we can design a customized treatment plan. Whether this is medications, physical therapy, or a referral to a doctor specializing in rheumatology or infectious disease; Motus is here to ensure that you are aware of the options available to you.

Should you be found to have a condition that requires traditional surgical treatment, Motus is happy to refer you to one of the many terrific local orthopedic surgeons, or to the surgeon of your choice.
